FedEx Donates Emergency Disaster Vehicle to Georgia Division of the Salvation Army
St. Marys, GA – FedEx has generously donated an emergency disaster rapid response vehicle to the Georgia Division of The Salvation Army. This invaluable contribution will significantly enhance The Salvation Army of Georgia’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively to natural disasters and emergencies. The emergency disaster rapid response vehicle will be strategically located at The Salvation Army’s St. Marys location and will complement The Salvation Army’s existing statewide fleet of 24 emergency disaster vehicles.
This state-of-the-art vehicle, donated by FedEx, is designed to navigate areas inaccessible to larger vehicles due to damaged roads, downed trees, and other obstacles. The rapid response vehicle was customized for The Salvation Army of Georgia emergency operations by Embassy Specialty Vehicles. It has a payload capacity of 16,500 pounds and can carry approximately 800 meals, 550 bottles of water, up to six gallons of coffee, and other essential supplies such as hygiene kits, tarps, and cleaning kits.
The partnership between The Salvation Army and FedEx has spanned 18 years. Over the course of the partnership, FedEx has supported their services by assisting with charitable shipping, donating national and local disaster grants, and providing twenty five co-branded food service canteens to locations both within the US and internationally. The St. Marys rapid response vehicle is the twenty fifth such vehicle FedEx has donated.
Major John Murphy, Divisional Commander of the Georgia Division of The Salvation Army, expressed profound gratitude for the donation. “We are incredibly thankful to FedEx for their steadfast support and generosity. This rapid response emergency disaster vehicle will greatly bolster our disaster response capabilities, allowing us to better serve those in need during their most challenging times.”
Regarding their donation of the rapid response vehicle, Shane O’Connor, Communications Advisor for FedEx stated, “The Salvation Army truly embodies the spirit of selflessness. Your dedication to serving others is inspirational, and we at FedEx are incredibly proud to play a small part in your mission.”
The new emergency disaster rapid response vehicle will be showcased at a special dedication ceremony on Wednesday, August 14 at 10:00 am at The Salvation Army’s St. Marys Service Center located at 1909 Osborne Rd. Community members and media representatives are invited to attend and learn more about the enhanced capabilities this vehicle brings to The Salvation Army’s emergency disaster response efforts.
