The Salvation Army of Cartersville Hosts Annual Dinner, Celebrates Service and Leadership
Cartersville, GA – The Salvation Army of Cartersville hosted its annual dinner on March 6, 2025, at the Sam Jones Methodist Family Life Center, bringing together community members, leaders, and supporters to celebrate a year of service and impact.
The evening commenced with an invocation by board member Mr. Ennis Denham, setting a tone of gratitude and reflection. Attendees were then privileged to hear from keynote speaker Commissioner Willis Howell, retired Southern Territory leader of The Salvation Army. Commissioner Howell shared inspiring remarks about the organization’s enduring mission to preach the Gospel of Jesus and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
“The Salvation Army is in partnership with God to find and restore what has been lost and to help those who are captive to anything,” exclaimed Commissioner Howell. “We are in partnership with God not only to free those who are bound, but to open the eyes of those who can’t see the danger they are in, spiritually or otherwise.”
A highlight of the event was the installation of new board members, officiated by Georgia Divisional Commander Major John Murphy. This ceremony underscored local leaders' continued dedication to advancing The Salvation Army’s work in the Cartersville community.
"Our board members are at the heart of our mission here in Cartersville,” stated Major Murphy. “Their leadership and vision ensure that The Salvation Army remains a beacon of hope for those in need."
Newly installed board members were Terry Alters, John Daniels, Major Mark Mayton, Captain Greg Sparacio, Jim Owens, and Janet Queen.
Sergeants Mike and Jennifer Duelley presented The Salvation Army of Cartersville’s annual report, detailing the organization's achievements over the past year. Their review included stories of lives impacted through emergency assistance, community outreach, and summer camp for kids, reinforcing the importance of local support in sustaining these efforts.
"This past year, we have seen lives changed, families supported, and hope restored,” said Sgt. Jennifer Duelley. “The numbers tell one story, but the real impact is in the people we serve every day."
The evening also featured an awards presentation recognizing outstanding contributions to The Salvation Army’s mission, including the Bartow County UGA 4-H Extension for recognition for their Food Drive efforts. Sam Jones UMC, Northwest Metro Telecom Pioneers, Weaver Heating and Air received Angel Tree awards; and Sam Jones UMC, Bartow County UGA 4-H Extension, SHAW Flooring, the Kiwanis Club of Cartersville, Georgia Power, and Ryan Nichols received Bellringer awards.
Sergeant Michael Duelley gave inspiring closing remarks. “Tonight is a celebration of service, but more importantly, it is a call to action,” Sgt. Duelley remarked. “Together, we can continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need us most.”
The event concluded with a moving vocal benediction by Sergeant Jennifer Duelley, leaving attendees with a sense of purpose and renewed commitment to serving the community.
