Morgan Shiyou, the Marketing Coordinator of the Salvation Army, joins WXXV News 25 in the studio to discuss the organization’s needs.

Shiyou encourages the community to donate non-perishable items to their food pantry.

The Salvation Army said many families depend more on local food pantries this year because of the decrease in funds for summer meal programs provided by the government.

In the past, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has provided additional funding to eligible families to cover food expenses during the summer months, but some of those funds were not available this year.

That means more families are needing support from organizations like the Salvation Army to get food for their families.

Salvation Army is asking the public to pitch in and lend a helping hand by donating canned goods, clothing, and also voluneer your time.

For more details on how you can help, visit the Salvation Army’s website.
