The Salvation Army of Frederick County welcomes new officers
The Salvation Army in Frederick County welcomes new leaders, Captains Ken and Amy Argot. They assumed their position on June 27.
Salvation Army Officers are periodically transferred to different locations, typically every three to four years. The Argots are enthusiastic and dynamic leaders, and they come to Frederick most recently from Atlanta, where for the past seven years they were responsible for the programs and services of The Salvation Army, Atlanta Temple Corps.
The Argots are originally from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where Ken was a family therapist for a psychiatric treatment center for children and adolescents. Amy owned a daycare center for toddlers, which included the children of The Salvation Army officers in town. That sparked a relationship, leading to the couple's involvement in emergency disaster service when Hurricane Isabel hit the east coast in 2003. Two years later, after continuing to volunteer at The Salvation Army, they felt the call of God to sell everything and move with their three children to Atlanta, enrolling in The Salvation Army's School for Officer Training.
Together the couple has had a ministry of 14 years, serving in Alexandria and Roanoke, Virginia, as well as their last appointment in Atlanta.
"It has been exciting to meet the people of Frederick and discover the opportunities for ministry here," Ken Argot said. "We look forward to meeting the needs of this community and ‘doing the most good' alongside the staff, volunteers and supporters of The Salvation Army."
The couple is responsible for all Salvation Army services in Frederick County, including the new day center for homeless outreach, Pathway of Hope, an intensive case management support program, as well as other emergency financial assistance. They will also oversee the Salvation Army Family Store on North East Street.
"Our mission is to preach the good news of Christ's kingdom and meet human need in his name without discrimination," Ken Argo said. "We invite everyone to join us for worship every Sunday at 10 a.m., at The Salvation Army, located at 223 W. Fifth St., here in Frederick."
