2022 Annual Report

The Salvation Army of Anderson SC

Dear Friends,

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

We are incredibly grateful to those who support The Salvation Army. Due to your love and generosity, we are able to assist individuals and families across the Carolinas who come to us in need. Whether it be shelter, nourishment, empowering our youth, or spiritual support, The Salvation Army is there.

In the pages of this annual report, you will read how The Salvation Army is a refuge for individuals in their times of need. Yet, the programs and services we provide would not be possible without your generosity. We thank you for allowing us to make a difference in countless lives – and above all, love.

May God bless you!

James “Zeke” Mazyck

“The Salvation Army is helping me get myself together. They treat me like family.”

Zeke arrived at The Salvation Army in Anderson, SC after being discharged from a hospital in another city. His alcoholism and chronic medical conditions had led him to homelessness, poor health, and owing a sizable medical bill debt. He arrived at The Salvation Army’s Stringer Emergency Lodge, where shelter and other essential needs were now being met. While at the lodge, Zeke received critically needed case management. The Salvation Army’s case manager assisted Zeke in filing for state and federal benefits to help address his financial and medical insurance shortfalls. Zeke was approved for free or reduced medical care and the local State Vocational Rehabilitation Program. After completing the State Vocational Rehabilitation Program, Zeke found and maintained productive employment. Due to this success and his positive outlook and work ethic Zeke was awarded the vocational rehabilitation worker of the year. Zeke was one of the first men to enter our Men’s Transitional Shelter Program.

In this program, he has been able to save money while working to reduce his debt by more than $28,000. Recognizing the need for a deeper investment in addressing his alcoholism, Zeke enrolled in The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta, GA. He graduated from this 6-month spiritual work therapy program with the skills and motivation needed to maintain his sobriety. He has returned to Anderson and the Men’s Transitional Shelter Program where he regularly attends weekly Bible study and worship services. Zeke continues to work towards realizing his goal of living a healthy, productive, and independent life.
