A Simple Act of Kindness Sparks Hope at Tulsa’s Salvation Army
While restocking supplies for The Salvation Army’s Center of Hope warming center and Nightwatch crew in Tulsa, Oklahoma, an extraordinary act of generosity unfolded at a local Sam’s Club.
Wayde Normandin, Volunteer and Disaster Resource Manager for The Salvation Army of Tulsa, was purchasing essential items—hot chocolate and nutritious snacks—to support those in need when a fellow customer, Tom, took notice. Curious about the total cost, he asked and learned the purchase amounted to $500.
Tom paused for a moment, considering the impact of the work being done. Assured that the transaction had already been covered, he still felt compelled to help. Without hesitation, he reached into his wallet, pulled out five $100 bills, and handed them over as a donation—refusing any receipt or recognition.
His generosity serves as a powerful reminder of the compassion within our community. Contributions like these directly impact those who rely on The Salvation Army’s services, providing not only essential supplies but also hope and encouragement.
“The Salvation Army remains committed to serving those seeking a warm cup of cocoa as a way to life their spirits, and moments like this reaffirm the strength of community and kindness,” said Normandin. “We are grateful for every individual who supports this mission—through donations, prayers, and acts of generosity like Tom’s.”
