Ardmore Youth Benefit from Donor's Generosity

May 23, 2022 | by Cindy Fuller

A classical pianist and music educator for over 50 years, Madelon Byrd Croskell is a nationally certified teacher in piano and music theory.  She has a passion for youth and sharing the gifts God gave her.  When asked why she volunteered to teach piano to the youth at The Salvation Army of Ardmore, she responded simply, “I love sharing everything, including my skills.”  She is an integral part of the youth music program.

Croskell began volunteering at The Salvation Army in 2019 by providing piano lessons once a week.  In 2018 she began providing eggs, from the chickens on the ranch, every Thursday as well as providing bananas for the soup kitchen on a weekly basis.

On a recent cold and blustery day, Croskell invited the youth from the Corps to her over 600-acre ranch.  The kids were able to visit the chickens, dye eggs for Easter, win prizes for a corn-hole tournament, run freely, play with bubbles, and topped it off with a picnic.  In addition to the day at the ranch, she also donated funds for the kids to have a day at the zoo, the science museum, and more.

Captain Kim Grimes states, “Madelon is the heart in the middle of all that we do with the youth in our music program.  She is generous with her time and resources.  The day at the ranch provided the kids an opportunity many would not wide-open spaces.”
