Bringing Warmth and Hope: The Salvation Army’s Mission During Harsh Winter Weather

Feb 19, 2025 | by Chris Johnson

When the bitter cold sets in across Oklahoma and Arkansas, The Salvation Army stands ready to serve. Our dedicated teams, alongside volunteers, provide lifesaving warmth, food, and shelter to those who need it most.

At The Salvation Army of Tulsa, our Chapel becomes more than just a place of worship—it transforms into a Warming Center, offering a safe space where people can escape the freezing temperatures. Here, guests can charge their phones, enjoy a cup of hot coffee or cocoa, and watch movies while warming up. Throughout the day, we provide hearty meals and snacks, ensuring that no one leaves hungry. Salvation Army Corps members and volunteers serve as welcoming hosts, creating an atmosphere of comfort, care, and community.

In Northwest Arkansas, The Salvation Army takes proactive steps to prepare for freezing temperatures. “When the paycheck runs a little thin and you just need a hot meal for your family, The Salvation Army is here,” says Stephanie Chastain, our volunteer coordinator in the region. To accommodate the increased need, The Salvation Army of Northwest Arkansas added 36 extra beds in Bentonville and 20 more in Fayetteville.

No one should have to face the brutal winter alone. Across Oklahoma and Arkansas, The Salvation Army is working tirelessly to provide warmth and shelter to those in need. If you or someone you know needs help—or if you want to support our mission—please reach out to your local Salvation Army. Together, we can make sure everyone has a safe place to turn when the cold sets in.
