The Salvation Army ALM Division Prepares for Hurricane Francine

Mississippi Gulf Coast, (September 10, 2024) – As Francine strengthens in the Gulf of Mexico, The Salvation Army of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi is mobilizing resources and personnel to prepare for its landfall. With the storm projected to impact the Gulf Coast, The Salvation Army is taking proactive steps to support communities before, during, and after the storm.

The disaster response team has mobilized personnel and mobile canteens, which are being strategically positioned to provide relief to those impacted by the storm. In addition to the on-the-ground response preparedness, the organization is working with community partners and local government agencies to ensure a coordinated relief effort.

Locally, teams are preparing to stay at the Center of Hope in Gulfport to move on the ready towards Louisiana and affected areas.

“We are monitoring Francine closely and taking all necessary precautions to respond swiftly,” said William Trueblood, Emergency Disaster Services Director for the ALM Division. “Our teams are ready to assist with immediate relief efforts, including providing meals, essential supplies, and emotional support to those affected.”

The Salvation Army has a long history of responding to natural disasters, particularly along the Gulf Coast, where hurricanes and tropical storms frequently pose a threat.

“We stand ready to serve our communities on the coast during this critical time,” said Captain Carla Hetrick.  “While the path of Hurricane Francine remains uncertain, we are committed to being prepared to provide support.”

The Salvation Army is encouraging residents to finalize their personal disaster preparedness plans and to heed any warnings or evacuation orders issued by local authorities.
