love the elderly Image

love the elderly

The Salvation Army showers senior citizens with love and serves them with respect.

Every year, older adults are welcomed with open arms in Salvation Army corps community centers across the country. Rather than simply allowing these wonderful men and women to fend for themselves against loneliness and depression, we organize community meals, offer joyful activities, visit the homebound, and even provide residential facilities for those in need.

Community

Every Salvation Army corps community center reaches out to the senior citizens of their community in different ways, meeting their specific needs. Through different programs, older adults can gather together to share interests, develop new skills, and enjoy the company of their peers.

Activities

Engaging the minds and bodies of older adults helps keep them young, active, and happy. At The Salvation Army, they can enjoy educational classes, kindle friendships over lunch, relive their youth with dances, take pre-retirement seminars, and countless other activities.

Residences

The Salvation Army operates several residential facilities for older adults, providing not only living quarters, but also an atmosphere of love, acceptance, and encouragement.

The Sage Brigade

The Sage Brigade program is an enriching social and educational program for seniors. Quality programming encourages seniors to be more active, social, and engage in a healthy lifestyle. There are many benefits seniors can expect from The Sage Brigade, such as:

  • Learning new skills
  • Encourages independence
  • Promotes emotional health
  • Mental stimulation

Seniors come to The Salvation Army Community Center, located at 3000 Bee Road in Savannah, 3-5 times each week to enjoy fitness classes, line dancing, pickleball, and games like Bridge, Canasta, and Mahjong.

Some benefits of participation in a senior program are the variety of activities, engagement in conversation, and meeting new people.

For more information or a schedule of activities, please contact the Community Center Director, Dr. Jenecia Perry, at jenecia.perry@uss.salvationarmy.org.
