I will give thanks to You, O Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all Your wonderful deeds.
I will be glad and rejoice in You;
I will sing the praises of Your name, O Most High.
Psalm 9:1,2
Prayer
Dear Lord, Thank You for my daily bread. I rarely think about what it takes for me to have a single crust of bread, but it is remarkable. From the seed planted by the farmer, to the seeming miraculous growth of that seen to a stalk and the grain forming, to the time of harvest. And then the people involved to take it from the farm, to be processed and baked and then brought to the store and placed on the shelf. I pick the loaf up without giving it a thought but for many in the world none of this is possible. Thank You for this blessing and so many others at my fingertips that come to me every day. When I pray, “Give us this day our daily bread,” it is quite an amazing thing I am asking for. Thank You for this today and all the others. And thank You for the really big blessings that are mine like salvation, eternal life, Your protection and presence. I am so blessed, dear Father. What a joy to be Your child. I thank You in the name of Your dear Son, Jesus, my Lord. Amen.
These young people provide an energetic dance at a farewell meeting in the Kenya East Territory. I’m exhausted watching them!
Background of the
Kenya East Territory
A long time British colony, Kenya achieved its independence in 1963 under its first president Moi Kipsigis, who was able to establish stability in the new country. Later, the need for a new constitution resulted in one being adopted in 2010 that restructured the government the President as head of state and government, Parliament exclusively with legislative power and a fully independent judiciary. Despite political turmoil in subsequent elections, the system of checks and balances has held, and Kenya’s overall stability has remained strong.
Kenya’s economy is primarily agricultural, bolstered by light industry and a huge tourist industry. It has unfortunately had to face major ecological challenges with frequent floods, droughts and famines. Further hamstringing its economic growth is widespread corruption in every level of society, although strong efforts by the government are starting to yield some positive results in this regard.
There is freedom of religion in Kenya, with over 83% professing Christianity, followed by Islam at 11% and a mixture of other religions claiming the remaining population. Kenya has long been a center of Christianity for Africa, particularly among evangelicals. There is a strong sense of mission, church growth and spiritual renewal. One of the problems in recent years has been an increasingly radical element of Islam that has resulted in frication and some violence, including terror attacks, in areas of the country.
The Salvation Army: In 1896, three Salvationists went to Kenya to work on the building of a new railway and made their witness while based at Taru Camp. The first official meetings were held in Nairobi in April 1921 by Lt. Colonel and Mrs. James Allister Smith. The first cadets were trained in 1923. On March 1, 2008, the Kenya Territory was divided into two and Kenya East Territory and Kenya West Territory were created.

Prayer Requests for the
Kenya East Territory
Praise Points:
We are grateful to God for a successful five-day Territorial Prayer and Fasting event, which took place at the beginning of this year (13-17 January 2025). The event brought with it a sense of rejuvenation and commitment. Salvationists were reenergized spiritually, psychologically, emotionally and physically for the service of God. We have heard powerful personal testimonies of spiritual deliverance and newfound freedom in Christ, of emotional breakthrough and reconciliation among estranged families and of spiritual transformation, physical healing and renewed faith in God.
Prayer Requests:
- We pray for God’s Spirit to lead us as a territory, as we play our part in empowering people, enhancing mission impact and establishing an enduring legacy in response to the General’s call on the Global Strategic Framework (GSF).
- We pray that the spirit of soul winning in all programs - in youth and children ministries, men ministries, women ministries, social, community and projects - will continue to be our priority.
- We pray for spiritual awakening, renewal and deeper commitment to God’s will of all Salvationists in the territory. We seek God’s guidance, fresh anointing and spiritual growth, that we may rise to new and greater heights in faith and service in 2025 and beyond.
- We pray that all the events and activities scheduled to take place this year in our corps, institutions, commands, in different communities, including all territorial appeals, will bring glory and honor to God.
- We pray for success of all command reviews which are scheduled to begin from March 2025, and that God will grant abundant grace and favor to our territorial leaders and to all those who will be involved during the review exercise.
- We pray for the well-being and good health of all active and retired officers, all employees and all Salvationists in our territory.
- We pray for peace, stability, harmony and unity in our nation of Kenya. May God inspire our national leaders and all citizens to love and support one another so that we may realize a healthy and a caring nation.

Something to Consider
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:31).
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will do it. Be still before the LORD (Psalm 37:5,7).
I am sure much prayer is wasted because it is lacking in persistence. People give up so easily. They take for granted that, because God does not open the door the first time they ring the bell, He will not hear. They forget about Abraham praying for Sodom, Elijah praying for rain and Daniel praying for his people; they forget about the words of Jesus Christ about the importunate widow.
And this persistence, this waiting patiently for the Lord, is the way to His secret places of joy and communion. It lifts the soul up to the heights where, by His love, the arrows of fear and envy cannot strike us, where sin loses its power to weigh down our spirits and where the devil himself cannot disturb our peace. Is this not exactly what so many people need?
I believe the spirit of prayer in us is like a lamp which loses nothing of its brightness by setting other lights aflame.

Benediction
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Amen. (Romans 15:13)
This flash mob led by Hezekiah Walker singing “Every Praise to Our God,” is one of my all time favorite music videos. Contagious!
