Polaris Generator Donation Supports Ongoing Salvation Army Recovery Efforts in Texas
Dallas, TX, (March 3, 2021) – Millions of Texans were impacted by Winter Storm Uri and the far-reaching effects of freezing temperatures, snow, and ice, along with the loss of power and water. The Salvation Army continues to serve in communities throughout the state working to recover from the storm. Polaris, a long-term partner of The Salvation Army, has generously donated 10 5500 watt generators to support the ongoing efforts.
With a presence in every zip code, The Salvation Army is uniquely positioned to respond with specialized services based on the needs of each community. Warming stations and emergency shelters were open to those affected by the winter blast, offering a safe and warm environment, providing food and shelter. As of March 2, 2021, The Salvation Army locations across Texas served 59,000 meals, 60,000 drinks, including 10,000 cases of water, served 22,000 snacks, provided 8,500 lodging accommodations, distributed 4,600 blankets, provided 5,500 showers, and 2,500 comfort/hygiene kits.
Thousands of individuals and families in communities across the state have experienced significant damage to their homes and businesses after pipes froze or burst due to the sub-zero temperatures and rolling and long-term power outages. The Polaris generators will be particularly helpful in situations where The Salvation Army is working with families to repair and return to their homes. The generators are already being prepared for distribution.
