The Salvation Army created the Project SHARE program in 1985 to serve those in need in Georgia; today it is our primary resource for emergency family assistance throughout the state. Qualified families who have experienced a sudden financial crisis – disasters that threaten the stability of the home – are able to get relief, often preventing utility cut-off or eviction. SHARE is one of the most successful privately funded utility assistance programs in the United States, providing more than $2 million in aid to more than 40,000 Georgians each year.
Emergencies and challenging economic times often make it difficult for people to acquire food, shelter, clothing and medical supplies or even pay their utility bills. But programs like Project SHARE provide a way for you to help those truly in need.
Each year, thousands of hardworking individuals and families find themselves in an unexpected financial crisis. Whether facing illness, vulnerable to losing a home, or simply just unable make ends meet, The Salvation Army is here for those in need of shelter, transportation, or emergency financial assistance.
Emergency Financial Assistance resources vary with local needs. For information on specific programs and locations, go to SAHelp.org and type in your zip code for information on your local Salvation Army resources.
Project SHARE provides Financial Emergency Assistance to individuals and families facing a temporary crisis that threatens their home. Project SHARE attempts to target the most urgent need, whether it is a utility bill, a part of a rent payment, or an emergency prescription.
To apply for aid, go to SAHelp.org and follow the instructions. The level of assistance is based on need, available funds, and the resources required to resolve the crisis.
All cases are on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funds are available.
The Project SHARE partnership includes most Georgia Electric Membership Corporations, Georgia Power, and several natural gas and municipal utilities. This partnership enables us to offer assistance in every county in Georgia and several counties in North Carolina and Florida served by Georgia utilities.
Most Georgians can enroll in monthly gift-giving through their power bill.
