there's no such thing as 'no place to go'

Each year, The Salvation Army provides over 10 million nights of lodging to those in need. Our group homes, emergency shelters, and transitional living centers provide housing, food, and overnight lodging for varying amounts of time to destitute families, the homeless, the displaced, and to youth where family care is undesirable or unavailable. Through our holistic approach to serving the whole person, we supplement every shelter service with emotional and spiritual support.

housing and homeless services

There are a lot of reasons people need help with housing. Sometimes, life doesn’t turn out the way we planned. Other times, we experience unexpected circumstances in life, such as job loss or debt following a medical emergency. With one in six people living in poverty today, homelessness is not predictable or exclusive to a certain “type” of person – it could happen to anyone.

The Salvation Army of Albany's Center of Hope:

  • The Salvation Army of Albany's Center of Hope is a 52-bed emergency shelter available for homeless men, women, or families needing a temporary place to rest their heads. A supervised shelter is set up in a safe, dry, and clean environment. The Center of Hope shelter has check-in hours from 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM. No late check-in is allowed.
  • A Place for Hope Resource Center is open daily from 8 AM-12 PM; it’s a place of respite for homeless clients. Our clients can wash their clothes for free, get a cup of coffee, snack bags, use the computer for job searches and a devotional.
