The Salvation Army of Augusta's Job Skills Training Program helps individuals discover their potential, set goals, and develop skills for career planning and self-sufficiency. This free, 4-week program is open to low-income individuals. It offers practical training in areas like financial literacy, resume building, job search strategies, mock interviews, stress management, nutrition, and computer basics. Participants can earn OSHA-10, ServSafe, and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications to enhance their career prospects.

The program fosters self-confidence, teamwork, and communication in a supportive, diverse learning environment. Graduates may receive free interviews and work attire through the Suit Yourself for Success Closet.

Classes run Monday-Friday, 9 am-1 pm, for four weeks. Enrollment is first-come, first-served. Applicants must complete an in-person interview and provide a photo ID, Social Security card, birth certificates for dependents, and proof of income.

Participants will:

  • Gain valuable job skills including good work ethics, communication, problem-solving, and team-building
  • Acquire life skills including food, nutrition, and personal hygiene
  • Improve money management
  • Train with computers
  • Earn certifications (OSHA 10, Forklift, CPR/First Aid, Safe-Serv)
  • Receive Forklift Continuing Education Credit Training
  • Network with Members

Along with the educational portion of the program, The Salvation Army Center of Hope will provide a comfortable place to sleep, daily meals, recreational activities, clothing vouchers, transportation from class, and additional support to assist participants in becoming productive.

Potential candidates should:

  • Be homeless or at risk of being homeless (several spots are reserved for those who do not fit this category)
  • Must be between the age of 18-62
  • Possess basic knowledge of reading, writing, and math
  • Complete an application and an in-person interview for consideration
