The Salvation Army of Augusta’s Job Skills Training Program is designed to help individuals discover their full potential. Participants identify goals and develop the skills needed for effective career planning and life enrichment, to promote self-sufficiency. The program is a 4 week, tuition-free program that provides individuals of low income the opportunity to gain the practical skills necessary to support achievement in personal growth and employment success. The program offers a variety of seminars and lab experiences to support skill development. A sample of the topics covered include financial literacy, resume development, successful job search, mock interviews, stress management, nutrition & healthy living, and computer basics. OSHA-10, ServSafe and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications are offered to support career goals. Through community donations to the Suit Yourself for Success Closet, participants are eligible to receive free interviews and workplace attire upon goal achievement.

The Job Skills Training Program empowers participants on their journey as they develop greater self-confidence and acquire the skills necessary to reach the goal of self-sufficiency. As a group, participants learn the importance of teamwork and effective communication facilitated through a close-knit, supportive learning environment that brings together individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures.

Classes meet Monday-Friday from 9 am-1 pm for four (4) weeks. 

Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. All applicants must complete an in-person interview and provide a picture ID, Social Security card, and birth certificates for all dependents. Income eligibility and verification are required.

Participants will:

  • Gain valuable job skills including good work ethics, communication, problem-solving, and team-building
  • Acquire life skills including food, nutrition, and personal hygiene
  • Improve money management
  • Train with computers
  • Earn certifications (OSHA 10, Forklift, CPR/First Aid, Safe-Serv)
  • Receive Forklift Continuing Education Credit Training
  • Network with Members

Along with the educational portion of the program, The Salvation Army Center of Hope will provide a comfortable place to sleep, daily meals, recreational activities, clothing vouchers, transportation to-and-from class, and additional support to assist participants in becoming productive.

Potential candidates should:

  • Be homeless or at risk of being homeless (several spots are reserved for those who do not fit this category)
  • Must be between the age of 18-62
  • Possess basic knowledge of reading, writing, and math
  • Complete an application and an in-person interview for consideration
