Join “the Army behind The Army” by volunteering your time to enhance The Salvation Army of Augusta’s services to the community. Volunteers make significant contributions and are an essential component both on the front line and behind the scenes for many of our programs.

Every day we work with community supporters like you to fulfill our promise of Doing the Most Good. Thank you for taking the time to discover ways to make an impact in your community through volunteering with The Salvation Army.

Types of Volunteers
The Salvation Army of Augusta utilizes a variety of volunteers to provide services for the community. These volunteers range from individuals to groups who assist with both one-day projects and events, as well as long-term programs. No matter how you would like to serve, we have a volunteer program for you!

  • Register as an individual for a project
  • Complete a long-term volunteer interest form
  • Register your group for a project

Individual Opportunities

Every year, hundreds volunteer with The Salvation Army through Individual Volunteer Opportunities. These opportunities don’t require a long-term commitment and are great for busy families and professionals who find that they simply want to give back a few days each year.

A few of the projects our volunteers assist with each year include:

  • Center of Hope soup kitchen
  • Canned food and supply drives
  • Bell Ringing at the Red Kettle

Long-Term Volunteer Opportunities

Looking for a program to volunteer with regularly? The long-term volunteer program might be the right fit for you.

Long-term volunteers are committed to assisting every week for at least a six (6)-month period. Their commitment helps The Salvation Army staff expand their services to our customers and clients, and often lend support in developing new ideas for programs and activities.

  • Assisting with Family Store donations
  • Using professional knowledge to teach skills
  • Supporting sports leagues
  • Clerical and customer service support
  • Visiting one-on-one and leading tours

Individuals who are interested in becoming long-term volunteers should complete an online profile using the online portal. This interest form allows the volunteer to express specific interests, availability, skills, and experiences. If online computer assistance is needed, please give the Volunteer Coordinator a call at (706)-434-3185 to assist you in getting started today.

When you are matched to a volunteer need, our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you. If the opportunity is a good fit, the Volunteer Coordinator will assist you in completing the necessary paperwork, references, and background check. Long-term volunteers must be willing to complete a one-hour online training and a one-hour volunteer orientation. Additional training may be required based on the volunteer role.

Group Opportunities

Often The Salvation Army needs a team of individuals to assist with projects for groups both large and small.

Projects that groups assist with include:

  • Food Pantry Pack & Soup Kitchen Clean-Up Crew
  • Family Store projects
  • Facilities & maintenance projects
  • Bell Ringing at the Red Kettle
  • Angel Tree warehouse
  • Seasonal drives

To see a full list of opportunities, the group leader should register their team through the online portal. While completing the profile, the group will have the opportunity to express their interest in various types of projects, so if a need arises we know you can be contacted.

To see a full list of opportunities, volunteers should register as individuals through the online portal. Each individual should register separately, including youth who plan to serve with a parent or guardian. If online computer help is needed, please give the Volunteer Coordinator a call at (706)-434-3185 to assist you in getting started today.

At The Salvation Army of Augusta, children and youth can volunteer, but some opportunities are for those 18 and older. Minors need a signed release from a parent or guardian and are usually supervised. Popular options for youth include our Soup Kitchen, open to volunteers 9 years old and up, Bell Ringing, open to all ages, and group projects like Food Pantry Pack, open to volunteers 11 years old and up.

Absolutely! If you are interested in serving at an event and are also interested in becoming a long-term volunteer, please complete both profiles. You have the opportunity at the beginning of each registration to link your information to any profile already completed by indicating that you already have a username and password.

Once completed, you can visit myvolunteerpage.com to access your profile. When completing your profile remember your username and password, so you can log in to access opportunity information and update your profile information as needed.
