The lack of affordable housing and sufficient support structure makes life difficult for individuals moving from rehabilitation back into life on their own. In the Next Step transitional housing program, men who have completed the rehabilitation program live in transitional housing while working, saving money, and rebuilding their lives.
Our emergency shelter has 40 beds and offers a clean and safe space to stay for men and veterans experiencing homelessness. In addition to offering food, shelter, and basic hygiene resources, we help prevent long-term homelessness in Greater Baton Rouge by providing ongoing holistic physical, emotional, and spiritual programming and support.
Poverty Impacts the Most Vulnerable
For many, making ends meet is a daily challenge, forcing people to choose between essentials things like rent, utilities and putting food on the table. We understand the stress this puts on families, and we are here to help.
Through this partnership, clients must be elderly (60 and above) or receive disability, or have a child recieve disability; a person applying for assistance must have their name on the bill and live at the address; they must present an emergency reason for needing assistance, it is income-based, and by appointment only.*

At The Salvation Army, we know that one of the first results to occur in times of crisis is food insecurity. Many people don’t know where their next meal will come from. Whether the cause is a natural disaster, financial strain, or a health crisis, many families in need struggle to find nutritional food regularly. Must provide current ID, and proof of address.

The CSRC is The Salvation Army of Baton Rouge’s alcohol and drug rehabilitation program designed to help men ages 18-60 overcome their temptation to abuse substances. By providing counseling, medical assistance, food, transitional housing, and most importantly, spiritual guidance, the program successfully helps men rebuild their lives.
Providing weekly enhanced services to families with children who desire to take action to break the cycle of crisis and intergenerational poverty. Pathway of Hope is a long-term approach to providing individualized services to families. By helping families overcome barriers like unemployment, unstable housing, and lack of education, we can break the cycle of crisis and vulnerability, leading families down a path toward increased stability.
