On Galveston Island, The Center of Hope located at 601 51st. Street houses an emergency overnight shelter and a Family Store. The shelter offers men, women and families a safe, clean place to spend the night and get a hot meal. A caseworker is available to assist with resources to help those who are willing to escape from homelessness. In the meantime, The Salvation Army meets their basic needs until they can get on their feet. Everyday at 5:00, a meal is served for the entire community and volunteers assist in that effort. Our new Volunteer Connection Center provides regular opportunities to help in the food pantry, clothes closet, creating hygiene kits, street outreach and training for disaster relief service both locally and out of the area.
