The Salvation Army of Chatham County

The Salvation Army Chatham County Crisis Assistance Program is a social service agency
that assists individuals and families in various capacities to prevent homelessness and address the client's
basic needs that lead to self-sufficiency such as food, clothing, hotel vouchers, rental, and utility assistance.

The Housing Crisis: Pathway to Success Program
An expansion of The Salvation Army Greensboro Crisis Assistance Program.  It is a comprehensive collaborative project to assist households at or below the federal poverty guideline with flexible service delivery that fills gaps of services in the community’s response to Homelessness, Housing Instability, Poverty, Unemployment, Underemployment, Childcare, Transportation, Mental Health and Substance Abuse for up to 2 years.   The Salvation Army Greensboro and Chatham County goal is to eliminate barriers and reducing challenges associated with people in a housing crisis by operating a housing crisis center.

Participants that are experiencing a housing crisis can contact The Salvation Army of Chatham County at (336) 763-6400 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM Monday – Friday to speak to a housing specialist to interview and determine the appropriate services needed based on each individual’s situation.

Emergency Financial Assistance
Application for Assistance: Download and Fill Out

  • Please specify Rent/Utility/Emergency Housing on application
  • Please provide valid photo ID and copy of past due bill or late rental notice
  • We do not provide rental assistance for households that live in subsidized housing, for example, income-based properties, Section 8 properties,
  • To qualify for assistance:
    • You must live in fair market-rate housing to receive assistance.
    • You must show proof of income of individuals in the household.
    • Meet Health and Human Services 2018 Poverty Guidelines
    • Must have an eviction letter from the landlord or the court
    • Lease agreement and statement of what is due on the account
    • The client has not received rental assistance in the past two years
  • Due to sustainability and funding restrictions, you may be required to show proof of income to receive rent assistance
  • You must have a valid photo ID. Accepted forms of ID are Driver's License, State ID, Prison ID, Student IS, Work ID, Passport, or any government-issued ID with a picture on it. Birth certificates for children in the household
  • In addition to the bill or past due rental statement/eviction notice, you need to bring proof of income and other monthly bills from the past 3 months and the current month. The client must provide receipts for all paid bills. Acceptable proof of income may include check stub, verification letter from employer stating pay rate and hours worked per week, unemployment letter, Social Security, Work First/TANF, Child Support, Veteran's Benefits, Worker's Compensation, Alimony, or contributions from other people with their contact information and amount given.
  • You must be in a crisis situation to receive emergency assistance funds meaning you are facing a disconnection of either Duke Energy, Water, or Piedmont Natural Gas services within 48 hours
  • For Utility, the client has not received utility assistance in the past two years
  • Must be past due, have a disconnection notice, or final notice. (Your name and account number must be on the bill).
  • You will be moving and/or have had an inspection in 24-48 hours that requires their utilities to be turned on before they can move in.
  • The household must meet income eligibility criteria in order to be eligible for assistance. Due to sustainability and funding restrictions, you may be required to show proof of income to receive utility assistance.
  • In addition to the utility bill, statement/disconnection notice, you need to bring proof of income, and other monthly bills from the past 3 months, and the current month. Food Assistance

Food assistance is collaborated with:
West Chatham Food Pantry - Siler City
• Monday - 4:30-6:00 pm
• Wednesday - 12:30-2:00 pm
• Friday - 12:30-2:00 pm

CORA Food Pantry - Pittsboro
M-F - 10:00-2:00 pm

No referral is required, but you must have two forms of ID

  • You need to present a picture ID and social security number for everyone living in your household to enter into HMIS.
  • Households are eligible for food once per month.
  • Food assistance provided as available at our Siler City office

Additional services

Seasonal Assistance: providing food, toys, gifts, clothing, and cheer to needy children and adults during the Christmas holidays.

Summer Camp: affording children the opportunity to attend The Salvation Army's residential camp in Denton, NC for a time for spiritual growth, fellowship, and recreation.
