Every family deserves the chance to stay together. Day of Giving is our community's opportunity to make that possible by supporting families facing homelessness, financial struggles, and unexpected hardship.

The goal is to raise $1,000,000 to provide the critical resources needed to help families regain self-sufficiency.

Every donation helps provide shelter, prevent eviction, put food on the table, and create pathways to permanent housing.

Why: Inspired by our Christian mission, The Salvation Army Austin is the largest nonprofit provider of family emergency shelter in Central Texas. The Salvation Army Austin’s two family shelters, The Austin Shelter for Women and Children and The Rathgeber Center for Families, work to keep families together as they rebuild. In 2025, The Salvation Army served 370 families and 721 children. The Salvation Army is committed to ensuring their experience with homelessness is brief and non-recurring. Every Family Matters: Give Shelter and Hope.

There is a hidden crisis of family homelessness in our community. Thousands of low-income families are experiencing homelessness or are on the brink of eviction. They often sleep in their cars, couch surf, or live in other unsafe circumstances in an effort to protect their children from the reality of homelessness. We ask the community to join us in changing the lives of families experiencing homelessness and creating a brighter future for their children. You can be part of the solution to end family homelessness in our community by donating to The Salvation Army Austin on Day of Giving!

About The Salvation Army Austin

Since 1889, The Salvation Army Austin Area Command has provided services to meet the basic needs of homeless and low-income populations in Central Texas. Annually we serve more than 10,000 people with shelter, addiction rehabilitation, clothing, meals, holiday support, and direct client assistance. Each year we successfully case manage hundreds from crisis to stability and self-sufficiency.  As the largest non-profit provider of family emergency shelter in Central Texas, more than 1,000 unduplicated individuals are sheltered between our two facilities: The Austin Shelter for Women and Children and The Rathgeber Center for Families. Our holistic approach is effective: last year, 84% of families exiting shelter moved to safe housing.
