Join us on Wednesday, August 23 for our 3rd Annual Day of Giving! Help us meet our event goal of raising $850,000 for families experiencing homelessness in our community.
Day of Giving is an opportunity for the Central Texas community to learn more and support The Salvation Army’s programs and wrap around services that help families, women, and children regain self-sufficiency and move into safe housing. Donations made during Day of Giving provide shelter, basic necessities, and critical resources to help families like Dinora’s regain stability and get back on their feet.
Dinora was pregnant with her first child when she found herself in crisis, living out of her car. She began researching local shelters and came across The Salvation Army. “I was very nervous and scared, especially after having my son,” Dinora shared about entering the shelter. However, after meeting the staff and other clients, she felt comfortable and welcomed. During her time at The Rathgeber Center for Families, The Salvation Army helped Dinora obtain a job where she could save for her future home, negotiated her renter’s debt so she could make payments over time, and provided family services such as childcare and therapy. Today, Dinora lives in a safe apartment with her young child. She is incredibly thankful for the guidance she received to get back on her feet, and for giving her the freedom to overcome obstacles on her own. “The Salvation Army is the best thing that ever happened to me and my son,” Dinora shared.
