Shelter Events - Charles Schwab Hosts Olympics Day
In April 2022, families at The Rathgeber Center for Families and The Austin Shelter for Women and Children experienced an Olympics Day filled with fun mini-games, face painting, and carnival food thanks to our corporate partnership with Charles Schwab.
When children are out of school, The Salvation Army shelters work hard to create fun and engaging activities for children living at our shelters. Last fiscal year, two out of every three shelter residents were below the age of 18. The summer season provides an opportunity for our partners to volunteer and organize fun activities tailored towards school-aged children.
More than 20 Charles Schwab volunteers set up, acted as referees, and cheered on children at game stations including basketball, relay races, corn hole, and more. By the end of the day, every child had a gold medal around their neck and a beaming smile on their face. Popcorn, cotton candy, and snow cones were graciously donated by Miscellaneous Rentals, Premiere Events, and Shaved Ice Island.
In addition to games and snacks, volunteers also hosted a face painting booth. One child in particular, Xavier, couldn’t get enough of the face paint. He kept coming back to the face painting station until his entire face and neck were covered. “It was great for him to get outside and be silly.” Xavier’s mother shared. “He really was missing his friends this summer, so this gave him something to look forward to this week!”
We cannot thank Charles Schwab, Miscellaneous Rentals, Premiere Events, and Shaved Ice Island enough for making this event possible. If your company or organization is looking for a volunteer opportunity, please contact:
