The Salvation Army Georgia Division Prepares for Hurricane Ian

Sep 28, 2022

Atlanta, GA (September 27, 2022) -  As Hurricane Ian tracks towards Georgia, The Salvation Army of Georgia’s Emergency Disaster Services, Officers, Staff and Volunteers stand prepared and ready to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual care to survivors and relief workers ahead of an anticipated impact from the remnants of this dangerous storm.

As Ian approaches Florida, a strong onshore flow is expected to bring significant impacts to coastal areas of Georgia late Wednesday into Thursday.    Salvation Army facilities and Units across Georgia are anticipating threats of high winds, coastal and flash flooding and will continue to communicate with local Emergency Management Agencies, Critical Infrastructure partners and Georgia Emergency Management Agency.

In times of disaster, The Salvation Army traditionally serves and prepares meals from its mobile canteens, helps distribute cleaning supplies, and offers comfort to those impacted. In preparation of Hurricane Ian’s possible residual effects, a total of 23 canteens (mobile kitchens) from Salvation Army locations across Georgia are being readied for service or mutual aid to the affected areas, should they be needed.
