Dear Friend,

May I ask for three minutes of your time? I would love to share with you something I saw God do.

In our Salvation Army work reaching out to people without homes we make a point to affirm everyone we meet as fellow human beings of value and worth in the sight of God our Creator. Each man or woman, boy or girl, has a name and often has a need.

But I met a man whose name I still do not know. In fact, no one on my team knows who he is. I’ve shared with you in the video clip above how he came into our lives. What he said in the video is all I know about him. What he gave in words and presence was a huge encouragement to all of us that spurred us on to keep doing more of the same.

Who do you think he was? I do know that God spoke to us through him. Our Lord brought him to that moment, whoever he was.

That’s unique. With just about everyone else we meet, we get to know their name and a little bit of their story. That’s a huge privilege.

We get to share food and clothes and provisions for other needs. We get to share the love of Jesus. We also invite them to our Center of Hope so we can support a life turnaround. We do that all summer and all winter – vacation and heat and ice and holidays don’t make the need go away. Often the need rises.

This summer, at the river levee and other spots, we’re sharing water and food and invitation to come in. At the Center of Hope, we’re also offering a cooler spot to rest from blazing heat.

That takes volunteers. It takes gifts of water. It takes contributions to buy the food and keep the air conditioning going.

I’m praying that the Lord would bring you to help in those ways just like he brought that man to our video talk. God will provide. I’d be personally grateful if a part of that provision comes straight from you and your heart of compassion.
