there's no such thing as 'no place to go'

Each year, The Salvation Army provides over 10 million nights of lodging to those in need. Our group homes, emergency shelters, and transitional living centers provide housing, food, and overnight lodging for varying amounts of time to destitute families, the homeless, the displaced, and to youth where family care is undesirable or unavailable. Through our holistic approach to serving the whole person, we supplement every shelter service with emotional and spiritual support.

housing and homeless services

There are a lot of reasons people need help with housing. Sometimes, life doesn’t turn out the way we planned. Other times, we experience unexpected circumstances in life, such as job loss or debt following a medical emergency. With one in six people living in poverty today, homelessness is not predictable or exclusive to a certain “type” of person – it could happen to anyone.

Whether you need a roof over your head for the night or you’re looking for an affordable place to call home for years, The Salvation Army of Valdosta, Georgia can help.

The Salvation Army of Valdosta Housing/Homeless Programs & Services:

Emergency Shelter

  • To stay at The Salvation Army of Valdosta's shelter, you will need a police clearance from the Valdosta Police Department (located at 500 N Toombs St.), along with a valid photo ID. The shelter opens at 6:00 PM. The shelter is first-come, first-serve. Everyone exits at 7:00 AM. Dinner and breakfast are served.
  • The first 7 nights in a 12-month period are free. After those 7 nights, everyone is expected to pay $7.00 a night.
  • We do not have a Women’s or a Family Shelter.
