2023 Annual Report

The Salvation Army of Greater Winston-Salem

As we reflect on our mission to serve and uplift our community, we at The Salvation Army Winston-Salem Area Command are profoundly grateful for the steadfast support and collaboration of individuals, businesses, and organizations like yours. Together, we've made significant strides in addressing the pressing needs of those most vulnerable among us.

At the heart of our efforts lies a commitment to providing essential services and fostering holistic development for individuals and families in need. Through our various programs, ranging from food assistance and shelter provision to addiction rehabilitation and youth development initiatives, we strive to create positive and lasting impacts in the lives of our neighbors.

Partnerships are the cornerstone of our work. We recognize that no single entity can tackle the complex challenges facing our community alone. It is through collaborative efforts and shared resources that we are able to maximize our reach and effectiveness. Your continued partnership enables us to expand our reach, enhance our services, and adapt to evolving needs, ensuring that no one is left behind.

As we look ahead, we are committed to deepening our impact and expanding our reach, guided by our unwavering dedication to serving those in need. Together, let us continue to build a community where compassion knows no bounds and where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you for your unwavering support and partnership in our shared mission to transform lives and build a brighter future for all.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Majors Andrew and Hazel Wiley

Faith's Story

Faith is a rising first grader who participated in our summer tutoring program at The Salvation Army Ken Carlson Boys & Girls Club. Initially, Faith was notably quiet and shy, confiding in her tutor about a speech impediment that led to teasing from other children. However, as she engaged more in the tutoring sessions, Faith began to open up and communicate more confidently. Her first assessment revealed challenges with certain letters, sounds, and high-frequency words. Over the summer, Faith’s confidence and competitiveness blossomed, especially in literacy and math games with her peers. Not only did she show marked improvement in phonics and math concepts, but she also developed a sense of pride in her writing. Faith's story is a powerful example of how our staff's dedicated work can profoundly impact our young members, offering them the crucial support they need over the summer, all while balancing educational progress with enjoyable activities.
