Captain Ruth Cancia
Senior Kroc Officer

Meet our Senior Kroc Officer:

Captain Ruth Cancia is a native of South Florida. She served for the first 7 years of her officership as a Salvation Army Officer in the beautiful Paradise Division. She served in the seats of Divisional Youth and Candidate’s Secretary for the Georgia Division before joining The Hampton Roads Kroc Center as the Senior Kroc Officer. Ruth is passionate about empowering people young and old, engaging them in the word of God, drawing them into eye-opening ministry experiences, and equipping them with resources to be confident and successful. She believes that every individual should have people in their lives that get excited over them. Ruth has over 20 years of ministry experience.

Captain Shimei Hewitt
Officer for Congregational Life

Meet the new Kroc Church Pastor:

Captain Shimei Hewitt is a Caribbean-American “island girl”. She was born in the Bahamas to Salvation Army officers, (an Antiguan mother and a Jamaican father). Captain Hewitt has been in The Salvation Army all her life and is a 3rd generation Salvationist.  She was a teacher in Antigua before migrating to the United States in 2003.  In the following year, she attended the inaugural class of The Salvation Army War College in Vancouver, Canada. Upon returning to America, she was one of the first urban missionaries in the USA South’s “Firecrest” program and worked as an urban missionary in Atlanta, Georgia, and Birmingham, Alabama. She has a Bachelor of English from The University of the West Indies (Mona Campus), and her Master of Divinity degree from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She became an ordained Salvation Army officer in 2015. A fan of the Arts, Captain Hewitt likes acting, different styles of gospel music, singing, and dancing. The Lord has used her to write dramas, poetry, and songs. She wrote her first song at 7 years old. She loves to travel, enjoy/explore new places/cultures and laugh! You may hear her laughing before you see her! (lol) Captain loves Jesus and her family. “She waits excitedly to see …the blessings that will be…in the Hampton Roads family…for the whole community!”

Mission of The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church.
Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

The Salvation Army Doctrines

1. We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice.

2. We believe that there is only one God who is infinitely perfect, the Creator, Preserver, and Governor of all things, and who is the only proper object of religious worship

3. We believe that there are three persons in the Godhead – the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory.

4. We believe that in the person of Jesus Christ the Divine and human natures are united, so that He is truly and properly God and truly and properly man.

5. We believe that our first parents were created in a state of innocency, but by their disobedience they lost their purity and happiness, and that in consequence of their fall all men have become sinners, totally depraved, and as such are justly exposed to the wrath of God.

6. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has by His suffering and death made atonement for the whole world so that whosoever will may be saved.

7. We believe that repentance towards God, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit, are necessary to salvation.

8. We believe that we are justified by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and that he that believeth hath the witness in himself.

9. We believe that continuance in a state of salvation depends upon continued obedient faith in Christ.

10. We believe that it is the privilege of all believers to be wholly sanctified, and that their whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

11. We believe in the immortality of the soul; in the resurrection of the body; in the general judgment at the end of the world; in the eternal happiness of the righteous; and in the endless punishment of the wicked.

The Salvation Army’s eleven articles of faith reflect our determination to remain faithful to our standards and principles. All members of The Salvation Army are encouraged to review these principles from time to time and to reaffirm before God their dedication to Him and to His good works.
