What are The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers?
For more than 100 years, The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers have provided spiritual, social and emotional support for men and women seeking freedom from substance abuse. Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARCs) provide residential housing, work therapy, Christian counseling, group and individual counseling, spiritual development, and life-skills programming within a safe, structured Christian environment.

The program is designed to help program participants grow spiritually, develop personal responsibility, strengthen life skills and prepare for successful reintegration into their families, communities and the workforce.

There are 21 Adult Rehabilitation Center programs in The Salvation Army Southern Territory, serving communities across 15 southern states and the District of Columbia.

Is the program free?
The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers provide residential programming at no charge to program participants. The program includes housing, meals, Christian counseling, work therapy, spiritual development and life-skills programming, allowing participants to focus on their rehabilitation. When a participant qualifies, certain government-provided benefits may be used to help offset eligible costs associated with meals and clothing.

Who qualifies for the program?
The Salvation Army seeks to make Adult Rehabilitation Center services available to individuals who can benefit from the program and whose needs can be appropriately served within the ARC environment. Participation in the program is voluntary for ages ranging from 21-65. Some Adult Rehabilitation Centers serve men, while others serve women. Program availability and admission requirements may vary by location. Contact your local Adult Rehabilitation Center for specific information.

How long does the program last?
The standard Adult Rehabilitation Center program is 180 days. Some locations may offer eligible graduates an opportunity to remain for an additional transitional period through a Graduate-in-Transition program.

Can a family member enroll someone?
The Salvation Army encourages family members to share information about the Adult Rehabilitation Center program with loved ones who may benefit from it. Because participation is voluntary, however, individuals must personally choose to enter the program and complete the admission process themselves.

What types of substance abuse does the program address?
The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center program serves individuals seeking help with substance abuse involving a variety of substances, including but not limited to:
•    Alcohol
•    Stimulants such as cocaine and methamphetamine
•    Opioids, including prescription pain medications, heroin and synthetic opioids such as fentanyl
•    Other areas of their life that interfere with healthy, productive living.  (Gambling, Pornography, and other areas that a participant's life has become unmanageable)

Adult Rehabilitation Centers are Christian rehabilitation programs and do not provide medical detoxification. Individuals who require medical detoxification must complete that process before admission into the ARC program.

What does the program include?
The 180-day Adult Rehabilitation Center program is designed to promote spiritual growth, personal responsibility and life transformation. Programming may include:
•    Christian counseling
•    Individual and group counseling
•    Work therapy
•    Celebrate Recovery and 12-step programming
•    Bible study and spiritual development
•    Life-skills development
•    Leadership development
•    Return-to-substance-use prevention
•    Anger management
•    Personal accountability
•    Employment and independent-living preparation

What happens after graduation?
As beneficiaries approach completion of the 180-day program, Salvation Army staff work with them to develop an appropriate post-graduation plan. Depending upon the individual and local opportunities, this may include participating in a Graduate-in-Transition program, obtaining housing and employment in the community, reconnecting with family and other healthy support systems, or pursuing other appropriate next steps. The goal is to help each graduate build upon the spiritual growth, personal responsibility and life skills developed during the program.

How are donations of furniture, clothing and household goods used?
When you donate gently used goods to The Salvation Army, you become an important part of helping change lives in your community. In communities served by Adult Rehabilitation Centers, donated goods help support the mission of the ARC. Clothing, furniture, household goods and other donated items are processed and made available for sale through Salvation Army Thrift Stores. Proceeds from these stores help fund Adult Rehabilitation Center programs and services, including housing, meals, Christian counseling, work therapy, spiritual care, life-skills development and other services that help beneficiaries rebuild their lives. Your donations truly help provide second chances.

How do I make a donation?
You can find a donation drop-off location or schedule an eligible donation pickup by visiting SATRUCK.org, ARCSouth.org, or calling 1-800-SA-TRUCK. Pickup availability and scheduling vary by community based upon transportation capacity, staffing and local demand.

What items do you accept?
The Salvation Army accepts many types of gently used goods, including clothing, shoes, household items, furniture, sporting goods, jewelry, antiques, books, media and other usable merchandise. For safety, operational or resale reasons, some items cannot be accepted. These may include damaged furniture, certain building materials, severely ripped, torn or stained merchandise, hazardous materials and other unsuitable items.

Are there other ways to help?
Yes. The Salvation Army also accepts many types of vehicle donations, including cars, trucks, recreational vehicles, boats and trailers. Financial gifts, estate gifts, donated goods, vehicle donations and other forms of community support help The Salvation Army continue its mission of providing Christian rehabilitation services and opportunities for life transformation.
