Partners in Doing the Most Good

The Salvation Army has changed lives and given hope to countless people throughout the nation. But it never does it alone.

It’s people just like you who make our programs possible by choosing to give your time. When you join our team of volunteers, you’re helping us build communities where lives are changed and hope is found. Volunteers are one of our strongest resources in meeting the needs of a community.

TRADITIONAL VOLUNTEERS

Every year, hundreds volunteer with The Salvation Army. There are opportunities for individuals and groups. We offer short-term and long-term commitments.

A few of the projects our volunteers assist with each year include serving dinner at the Center of Hope soup kitchen, organizing canned food and supply drives, and organizing donations at our Family Stores.

To see a full list of opportunities, register as an individual through the online portal. Each individual should register separately, including youth who plan to serve with a parent or guardian. Learn more here.

Angel Tree

The Angel Tree program addresses the struggles of thousands of families in the Greater Augusta Area to provide Christmas gifts for their children. In collaboration with the community, The Salvation Army facilitates a wonderful Christmas experience for these families. Throughout the holiday season, various locations host trees adorned with paper angel tags representing individuals in need. Donors can adopt an angel at places like The Kroc Center, local Walmarts, and the Augusta Mall. After adopting, they can shop for gifts, and return the new, unwrapped items along with the Angel Tag or Angel Code to The Kroc Center.

Bell Ringing

The Salvation Army is well-known for its Christmas season outreach, symbolized by the iconic red kettles since 1891. The funds raised through these kettles support The Salvation Army's free programs throughout the year. Local volunteers are crucial for ringing bells at various kettle locations, starting in November and concluding on Christmas Eve. Individuals, churches, schools, businesses, and organizations can sign up to ring bells for shifts, whole days, or the entire season.

Christmas Warehouse

As Christmas approaches, The Salvation Army Christmas Warehouse becomes a hub for food, toys, and stockings that will be distributed to thousands of local families in need. Volunteers are integral to the process, assisting in sorting, organizing, bagging, and distributing these gifts.

DISASTER VOLUNTEER

Emergency Disaster Services Volunteers are key to The Salvation Army’s Disaster Services Programs. Our trained Army of Volunteers helps serve meals, assist in donation management warehouses, lend an ear to disaster survivors, and perform many more tasks at a moment’s notice.

In addition, the EDS Volunteer Team participates in local drills that support community preparedness.

Typical volunteer deployments for local emergencies and disasters range from a few hours to a few days.

To join our team of Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) Volunteers, call our Volunteer Coordinator at (706)-434-3185.
