At The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte, we’ve been serving our neighbors in need since 1904. Everything we do is in service of rendering love, support, and guidance to those who’ve lost their way, lost their homes, lost their hope, or simply need encouragement and a helping hand. Because that’s what God intended for us to do. And, that's what love is.
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted so many things in our lives – how we work, how we interact, how we shop and so much more. For many in our community, the pandemic hasn’t just been an inconvenience. It has been distressing and life-altering, as people have lost income, lost their homes, and sadly, lost their hope. The Salvation Army is more dedicated than ever to seeing that every person who steps through our doors can find the support he or she needs to thrive.
--April Meadows, Board Chair
Many of our neighbors have gone, or are going, through the darkest days they’ve ever experienced. Yet we can have hope because we know that “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5). Every day, people in our community are seeing their lives restored and their hope replenished. We are constantly in awe of how God continues to provide. We have some exciting new projects coming in the new year, and we look forward to your partnership on our mission to improve the lives of families in need.
--Majors Todd & Wilma Mason, Area Commanders
For National Donut Day, The Salvation Army served free doughnuts at StarMed Healthcare’s COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic (June 2021).
Central Church has been a committed partner for many years. They assembled dozens of “Welcome Home” baskets filled with essential household items for families transitioning from the Center of Hope to a new home (March 2021).
The Carolina Panthers and logistics management company transportation Insights hosted our Boys & Girls Clubs members for a special workforce development program. Members learned about all the work opportunities in sports, from game day staff and ticketing to marketing and sponsorships (August 2021).
Canoeing and birdwatching made for a great time outdoors for our Boys & Girls Club members with our friends from the NC Wildlife Federation and Great Outdoors University (August 2021).
Our Boys & Girls Club program aims to inspire students to achieve their dreams after high school. Through college tours, students gain insight into what their futures could look like. For some, it could mean attending a great university like UNC-Greensboro (July 2021).
In July 2021, we began moving families into a local hotel we leased and named “Booth Commons at Mulberry – a Salvation Army Community.” Today, The Salvation Army owns the nearly 52,000-square-foot facility, which has space to accommodate 100 families at a time. Each apartment-style unit is complete with a bathroom and kitchen for families to prepare their own meals (July 2021).
