Anonymous Donor Gives $500,000 to Better the Future Campaign in Honor of Deronda Metz
As you walk among the skyscrapers uptown and talk to people, it’s easy to see why they call original Charlotteans unicorns. There aren’t many individuals who grew up in Charlotte and decided to devote their entire lives and careers to the city they love.
Deronda Metz is one of the few – she has made it her life’s work to invest in making Charlotte a better place. She has served on the frontlines of the battle against homelessness, devoting more than three decades to serving individuals and families through the Center of Hope.
She is recognized as an expert, both throughout Charlotte and the nation. As a result, one foundation in Charlotte (who wished to remain anonymous in order to devote more attention to the cause and those like Deronda serving it) has made a $500,000 gift in honor of Deronda Metz.
Recently, we were able to gather her colleagues and family for a plaque presentation to recognize Deronda for her impact. She is truly helping us “better the future” for Charlotte residents, and this substantial gift to the campaign will help us make vital improvements to our shelter on Spratt Street.
