True Stories: The Impact of One COVID Case
Recently, a mother came to our Social Services team for assistance with her rent and utilities. She was terrified that everything she’d worked so hard for her entire life would be gone while she was out of work due to COVID-19 guidelines. When one of her two children tested positive for COVID and had to miss school for two weeks, it meant mom couldn’t go to work. Never having fallen behind on bills before, she now found herself faced with eviction if she didn’t have a paycheck to pay rent and other important bills on time.
If this mom had not found The Salvation Army of Greenville, she likely would have been kicked out of her home, losing all of her belongings and those of her children. Her kids would have likely had to change schools, miss valuable school time, and be ripped out of the only life they have ever known.
You see, it is much more than merely being evicted. It’s more than that. It’s being extracted from the life you know, all because one single thing happens; in this case, it was one positive COVID test. The Salvation Army was able to assist this mother and her children with her rent and utilities that month while her child remained in quarantine. Now, this family is still in their home, the children are back in their school, and mom is back to working all of her regular hours. All of their financial ends are meeting again.
We received a call from this mother once the bills were paid on time, barely able to make out what she was saying between her tears of gratitude. She and her children were safe. This success story would not have been possible without the generous support of donors and partners like you.
