The Salvation Army of Greenville Introduces “Kettle Pay,” and Virtual Kettles
As America moves toward becoming a cashless society, The Salvation Army of Greenville is making it easier for donors to give back during the Christmas season by making a gift with Apple Pay or Google Pay at the iconic Red Kettles.
The Salvation Army has placed smart chips and QR codes on Red Kettle signs across the Upstate, allowing shoppers to simply “bump” or scan their phones to make a digital donation.
Shoppers will be directed to a custom donation page that accepts Apple or Google payment options. The funds will then be distributed to The Salvation Army of Greenville, and an email receipt will be sent directly to their phone.
In addition, new this year, people can sign up to serve as “virtual” bell ringers to raise money to support The Salvation Army’s mission work. Individuals can sign up at RegisterToRing.com to create an account, customize their profile page, and then share the unique URL on social media or via email with friends, family, co-workers and more to encourage online donations.
“We recognize the changes in people’s shopping habits, and we want to make donating as seamless as possible without losing our traditions,” said Major Andrew Kelly, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Greenville. “By allowing more cashless donation options, and launching the Virtual Kettle campaign, it provides an opportunity for people in our community to support those experiencing poverty in Greenville. The money raised works to combat homelessness, feed the hungry, and offer Christmas assistance for families in need.”

Now in its 129th year, The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is one of the oldest and largest charitable campaigns in the world. Every year, the campaign raises millions of dollars to provide toys for kids at Christmas, clothes and shelter for the homeless, food for the hungry, after-school programs for kids, and other services to America’s most vulnerable populations year-round.
