A Grandmother’s Strength, A Community’s Support
When Ms. G, a loving great-grandmother, suddenly became guardian to her young grandson—diagnosed with acquired cerebral palsy after suffering abuse—she faced overwhelming challenges. Staying in a home that couldn’t meet his needs, she worried about how to provide the stability he deserved.
That’s when a local health care agency referred her to The Salvation Army of the Midlands. Working alongside a partner agency, her Case Worker helped her secure affordable housing, while The Salvation Army covered move-in costs and provided rent and utility assistance for several months. This gave Ms. G time to settle, get her finances in order, and focus fully on her grandson’s care.
Today, thanks to her determination and the compassion of community partners, Ms. G and her grandson have a safe, stable home.
“The Salvation Army made it possible for me to give my grandson the home he deserves,” Ms. G shared with gratitude.
Stories like hers remind us how love, combined with community support, can restore families, stabilize lives, and bring hope to the future.
