About Us

Dedicated to Doing the Most Good for North Texans in need

Helping those in need is the heart of our mission.

We’re motivated by the love of God to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. We embrace people regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

One Army, Many Fronts

Backed by 131 years of expertise, The Salvation Army of North Texas is uniquely positioned to respond to the changing needs of our community. Our footprint across 4,078 square miles in Dallas, Tarrant and Ellis, Denton and Collin, and Rockwall Counties makes us the largest Salvation Army Command in the world. But more importantly, it allows us to reach our most vulnerable neighbors in every pocket of North Texas.

What We Stand For

We will be one Army on many fronts, helping North Texans combat addiction, homelessness, and poverty. Faithful to our mission, we will enable God-empowered transformations of individuals and society. Our delivery models will be aligned across the communities we serve to ensure that we end cycles of crisis and vulnerability.

In 1865, Methodist minister William Booth and his wife Catherine entered the streets of London’s East End to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to people living in extreme poverty. Booth’s ministry recognized the interdependence of material, emotional and spiritual needs. In addition to preaching the gospel, Booth and his Army became involved feeding and sheltering those living in poverty.

The basic social services developed by William Booth have remained an outward visible expression of The Salvation Army’s strong spiritual principles. In addition, new, innovative programs have been established over the years that meet contemporary needs. Enduring core values include being passionate, compassionate, brave, uplifting and trustworthy.

Passionate
The Salvation Army's mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. We believe Christ changes lives. This faith gives us a motivation that goes beyond simply doing good. We have a passion for doing the most good for body, soul and spirit.

Compassionate
Caring for the poor. Feeding the hungry. Sheltering the homeless. Clothing the naked. Loving the unlovable. Befriending the friendless.

Uplifting
William Booth once said, "The Salvation Army is a place of hope. When every other light is extinguished, and every other star has gone down, this one gleam shines steadily and clearly out in the darkened sky: ‘If I could only get to The Salvation Army, they will do something for me.'

Brave
People who serve in The Salvation Army routinely go into places others prefer to avoid: Impoverished neighborhoods, jails and prisons, hospital rooms and nursing homes, gatherings of substance abusers, and the immediate scene of natural disasters.

Trustworthy
The Salvation Army one of the ten most-enduring institutions of the last century, global consulting firm, Booz Allen Hamilton, said, "The Salvation Army endures in large measure because it has earned a unique reputation and high level of public trust."
