National Donut Day

The first Friday in June marks one of the sweetest days of the year.

Donate

Created by The Salvation Army in 1938.
Celebrated worldwide ever since.

The first Friday of June is the day we celebrate all the warm-and-glazed goodness of donuts. But did you know that donuts and doing good go hand in hand?

The Salvation Army established the first National Donut Day in 1938 to raise funds for those in need during the Great Depression. The day also commemorates The Salvation Army's “Donut Lassies” — fearless women who braved the front lines of World War I to deliver warm, fresh donuts to homesick soldiers.

Nearly 83 years later, National Donut Day serves as a delicious reminder of our commitment to spreading goodness throughout the world. And thanks to your ongoing support, we’re able to do the same here in our own backyard.

Join in on the fun.

You can make your own delicious donuts at home with The Salvation Army's original Donut Lassies recipe, available below.
