Star's Spark: A Journey of Service and Growth at The Salvation Army
Star's journey with The Salvation Army Thrift Store began right after high school. Coming from a family of loyal shoppers, she saw this job as an opportunity to make a living, find some great thrift store treasures, and serve her community. Seven years later, Star still views every day as a new opportunity to "Do The Most Good" in Northwest Arkansas.
Star's commitment to The Salvation Army extends beyond managing the store. She works closely with the gentlemen in The Salvation Army's Corps Salvage Rehabilitation Center (CSRC). Reflecting on her time with these men, she says, "It is amazing to see them succeed and take what they have learned here and flourish."
Over the years, Star has witnessed an increase in need within the community due to rising costs of food, clothing, and basic household items. "It feels good to be able to help those who really need it, and you can always tell when someone is grateful for the help. It's more than just a job when you see the spark in someone's eyes when they didn't have to spend their whole paycheck on things for their home or clothes for their family," she shares.
The Salvation Army has also played a significant role in Star's personal and professional growth. She reflects on graduating from high school as a shy individual who didn't know much about professionalism. Through her time at the Thrift Store, she has learned how to be punctual, be a good manager, and open up to people. "I have grown as a professional and as a person," she says.
Star emphasizes that The Salvation Army is a different kind of organization. "We try to help out the most that we can. We meet those basic needs that people have—food, clothing, household items. Nobody is getting rich here, and every penny made goes right back into helping this community."
For Star, this job is much more than just a job—it's a calling. Her dedication and passion for serving others have made a significant impact on the Fayetteville community, and we are incredibly proud to have her leading our Fayetteville Thrift Store.
