Volunteer Requirements

Before you can begin volunteering at a Red Shield Youth Center, we require all volunteers to complete a few important steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our youth, families, and staff. These measures help create a secure, welcoming environment for everyone involved.

All volunteers must:

  • Complete a volunteer application form
  • Pass a background check
  • Provide references
  • Participate in an interview with local center staff
  • Successfully complete and maintain certification in The Salvation Army Safe From Harm training program — our mandatory child and adult safety program designed to prevent abuse and promote a safe environment
  • Follow any local or state-specific requirements for working with minors

The Safe From Harm program is a critical part of our commitment to protecting children, teens, and vulnerable adults. Volunteers must complete the training before beginning their service and must renew their certification periodically to remain active.

We are committed to supporting you through each step of the process and making it as smooth and straightforward as possible. Thank you for helping us create a safe, inspiring place for the next generation to grow and thrive!
