JOEY'S STORY

“Painful, Abused, Dark, Cold, Hungry and very Lonely… Those are the words that described my life before I came in contact with The Salvation Army Memphis Adult Rehabilitation Center.”

I knew I needed something different and the only thing that I hadn’t tried was God, so I said, “God I’m going to give you a year and I need you to show me something and if it works out I’m going to stick with it”

“Painful, Abused, Dark, Cold, Hungry And Very Lonely… Those Are The Words That Described My Life Before I Came In Contact With The Salvation Army Memphis Adult Rehabilitation Center.”

God did show up in ways that I never expected, He used this wonderful organization called The Salvation Army Memphis Adult Rehabilitation Center, where I started to work on my life while I was introduced to a type of love I never experienced before.

Little by little, He was giving me my life back. I had the opportunity to reunite with my daughter after three years, three months later I got closer and closer to see my son whom I hadn’t seen in 10 years. God also blessed me with wonderful opportunities that many take for granted such having a job, a bank account, a truck and most importantly… A real family.

Today I am happy, I feel safe, I have people in my life that will do the things they say they will do for me, and they expect the same from my end. I can sleep at night and I can wake up knowing that I am safe.

It is hard to quantify the result of an investment of time and resources in The Salvation Army Memphis Adult Rehabilitation Center, I called that a ripple effect and it is because in my case it wasn’t just me who received the benefits of the investment. It is my kids, now my family who became a generation that will transform a community, a city and a nation.

I am extremely grateful to God and to those who trust this wonderful organization to carry out the difficult job to rescue the Last, the Lost and the Least.
