Commanders Majors Henry and Benita Morris

Memphis Area Commanders and Kroc Senior Center Officers

Since their commissioning as Salvation Army officers in June 2001, Majors Henry and Benita Morris have faithfully served God and His people with passion, excellence, and unwavering commitment. Throughout their ministry, they have developed a deep love for youth, finding great joy in nurturing young people and helping them grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Major Henry Morris holds a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from Norfolk State University and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University. In 2025, he also completed The Salvation Army's Aspire Leadership Program. Major Benita Morris is a graduate of DePaul School of Nursing, where she earned her degree in nursing.

Upon their commissioning, the Morrises were appointed to the Atlanta Peachcrest Corps, where they served for nine years. It was during this appointment that their passion for youth ministry flourished. They established both the Peachcrest Praise Dance Team and the Peachcrest Steppers, whose ministries took them throughout the United States and abroad, sharing the Gospel through creative arts. They also successfully built a strong partnership between the corps and the local Boys & Girls Club, creating new opportunities for community engagement and youth development.

In 2010, the Morrises were appointed as Divisional Youth Secretaries, Candidates' Secretaries, and Divisional Corps Cadet Counselors for the Maryland and West Virginia Division, now known as the Potomac Division. They faithfully served in these leadership roles for four years, investing in the spiritual formation of young people and future Salvation Army officers.

In 2014, they were appointed as Divisional Youth and Candidates' Secretaries for the Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi Division, where they continued their ministry for three years, strengthening youth programming and encouraging the next generation of Salvation Army leaders.

In 2017, Majors Morris were appointed as Area Commanders and Corps Officers for the Columbia Midlands Area in South Carolina. Their innovative leadership and community-centered ministry flourished in this appointment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they launched educational initiatives that provided critical support to students and families throughout the Midlands community. In recognition of their outstanding service and exceptional community outreach, they were honored with the Key to the City of Columbia.

In 2021, the Morrises were appointed to Florida Divisional Headquarters, where they served as Divisional Secretaries for Program. Over the course of four years, they provided strategic leadership and oversight for divisional programming, helping to strengthen ministry throughout the Florida Division.

Majors Henry and Benita Morris are now honored to serve in the Tennessee Division as Area Commanders and Senior Kroc Officers in Memphis, Tennessee. They look forward to continuing their ministry of service, leadership, and community transformation as they partner with others to advance the mission of The Salvation Army.

Henry and Benita have been happily married since May 1, 1993, and celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary in 2026. Together they are blessed with five children: daughter Sierra and sons Andrew, MyleeQ, MyQyle, and Jeremiah. They are also proud grandparents to one grandson, Andrew IV ("Quad"), and two granddaughters, Na'Kayla and Ni'Yonna.

The Morrises remain deeply committed to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, meeting human needs in His name without discrimination, and investing in the lives of those God has called them to serve.

A major factor in the development and growth of Salvation Army programs and services has been the support given by community leaders throughout the country.

This “army behind the Army” has interpreted community needs, explained the program and services to the community, and provided financial assistance, fundraising and other support to the Army’s efforts to render effective service.

These friends give valued advice and assistance through their membership in organized groups, such as advisory boards, advisory councils and committees, women’s auxiliaries, and as program and event volunteers.
