RED SHIELD TRIBUNE: JULY 2022 | VOL 5

Back To School

As kids head back to school, supplies are crucial to help them succeed – whether online or in the classroom. Every year when kids are getting ready to head back to school, The Salvation Army teams up with Walmart to help local families in need get school supplies. On August 5th, we are hosting our Back to School event at the Kroc Center, where families will come pick up these much-needed school supplies. A great way to help with this event is by purchasing items from the registry we have created. This registry helps provide school supplies to children that need them so that they can start the school year right.

Another unique way to help is by hosting your own collection drive for school supplies. You can create your own list of needs based off of our registry, set up and host the drive, and then drop those supplies off at the Purdue Center of Hope or Kroc Center! If you're interested in hosting a collection drive, please reach out and we would love to give you more information!

CAMP HOPE ROUIND-UP

Our officers will be heading off to Camp Paradise Valley the week of July 4th. For now, we want to give an update on all the happenings at Camp Hope so far!

Our campers have practiced reading and writing in their academic support classes, which help them retain information learned over the previous school year. They will continue these classes so they can be prepared for an all new year!

Campers have even gotten the opportunity to learn dance and put on their own recital for friends and family. Thanks to The TL Williams Academy of Dance, our campers learned Jazz, African, Ballet, Broadway, and Hip-Hop dances. Opportunities like this give our campers experiences they may not have ever gotten otherwise, and it's been amazing to watch them flourish through expressing themselves in unique ways.

Check out the below videos for a quick Camp Hope Round-Up update from our campers!

We still need volunteers to assist with Camp Hope! If you're interested in joining the fun.

MID-SOUTH AIRSHOW

On June 18th, we took the Mobile Canteen out to the Mid-South Airshow in Millington, TN and hosted a cooling tent for all attendees. We were able to help over 600 people beat the heat, while enjoying the incredible stunts performed by pilots, including the United States Navy Blue Angels. Many people got to take a step inside our Mobile Canteen and see all the equipment that allows us to care for those in need during disasters and in our community.

If you would like to join us for a Mobile Canteen outing and be a part of changing lives.

VOLUNTEERING IN A NEW WAY

We're so excited to announce that coming soon, we will have a new way to view and sign up for volunteer opportunities! Our new portal will make it easier than ever to volunteer and find out what we're doing. This system will allow you to track your volunteer hours quickly. You can also list your interests on your profile so that you'll get automatic updates when an opportunity matching your interests is posted.

This year, signing up to ring the bell will remain on the same site as always. But we have hopes to move that to the new system in the future, making everything seamless and easy for you.

We are hard at work making sure this system is unique to us and you. Once a launch date is determined, you will be notified so you don't miss out on any opportunities. Our hope is that this will make the volunteer experience even better!
