RED SHIELD TRIBUNE: MARCH 2023 | VOL 11
RSVP: DOING THE MOST GOOD APPRECIATION DINNER
RSVP today to our first-ever Doing the Most Good Appreciation Dinner! This dinner will give us an opportunity to formally thank supporters who have helped achieve our mission over the last year.
It takes an Army to provide food, clothing, and shelter to the people of Memphis and the Mid-South. You have marched alongside us to do just that. Whether you gave time or gave donations, we want to let you know that we appreciate you!
Join us Thursday, April 27th at 6 pm at Kroc Memphis for a night of food and fellowship. The night will feature testimonials from former clients and long-time volunteers. You'll also get the chance to learn about new volunteer opportunities planned for this year.
Be on the lookout for future email updates!
NEED KNOWS NO SEASON
There are several reasons why a woman and her child walk into The Purdue Center of Hope on any given day. They could be experiencing chronic homelessness, going through a recent job loss, escaping domestic violence, or fighting to overcome addiction. Every woman and every family has a unique story that leads them to our shelter. Their needs don't wait until the holiday season, and neither do our services.
We provide for basic needs, counseling, financial literacy, parenting classes, youth tutoring, and so much more. We also provide the gift of time, because we know that overcoming life's challenges won't happen in a day. Reaching true stability takes time. And our goal is to help women and children achieve self-sufficiency and end generational cycles.
Renewal Place is a two-year program which strives to keep mothers and their children together while they work towards sobriety. Our New Directions Program serves women and children experiencing chronic homelessness and allows them to seek shelter at The Purdue Center of Hope for up to one year. Our Single Women's Residence serves women experiencing homelessness who are unaccompanied by children.
The Purdue Center also provides youth development each day, and in the summer months, gives youth access to enriching summer activities through Camp Hope and Camp Paradise Valley.
When the holiday season ends, we remind Memphis and the Mid-South that need knows no season. On May 18th, we will have a Kettle365 Day of Giving. We will once again hold our Kettle365 Telethon raising funds that will go towards our services in the summer months. We are calling on our dedicated volunteers to assist with planning and answering phones on the Kettle365 Day of Giving. You can sign up to volunteer here.
FEBRUARY SNAPSHOT
The second month of the year has come to a close, and the families in need in Memphis and the Mid-South have felt your love.
In February, The Purdue Center of Hope served 40 women and children in our Emergency Family Shelter, 25 women in our overnight emergency shelter, 28 women and children in our long-term Renewal Place Family Residence for addiction recovery, 19 women in our Single Women's Residence, and we served 9,597 meals.
Be on the lookout for opportunities to partner with us throughout the year to keep the momentum going!
