CHARITA’S STORY
When I was living in The Salvation Army Memphis Shelter I was little and I don’t remember much, but I do remember my mom was going through a hard time. But I clearly remember Camp Hope.
I truly believe The Salvation Army saved my mom’s life and by saving her they saved me as well. All life skills they taught my mom she taught me and now I am who I am because of it.
I come from time to time and volunteer at The Salvation Army Memphis Shelter to give back of my time and talents, working with children, helping with their homework, afterschool program, Camp Hope and in just about everything I can.
Camp Hope Helps With Kids In Transition And Summer Learning Loss.
You see these kids jump from school to school on monthly basis and when they face a new school they may or may not be up-to-date with the classes this new school is teaching right now. So they may "under-perform but in reality, they haven't had a stable home life to manage school and educational expectations. Camp Hope helps with kids in transition and summer learning loss.
That's why Camp Hope is so important! We do not focus on childcare or just on the lives of mothers, but on the lives of the children. One summer at Camp Hope can change the future and trajectory of a child for a lifetime. I am a product of this program and proud to continue helping other kids and families like mine.
Today I am in college. I am happy and thriving. I am looking forward to all that God has in store for me and I hope that it involves working with programs like this one where lives are being transformed.
