DIY Games

When video games are played out, these do-it-yourself games will keep the fun going.

Paper Airplane Toss

Learn how to make a paper airplane and then challenge your aim during your own DIY paper airplane toss! All you need is paper, cardboard, and markers!

Materials:

  • Marker
  • White Computer Paper
  • Cardboard

Instructions:

  1. With a parent's help, cut out various size holes on a piece of cardboard (you may also use a large poster board or a plastic tablecloth). This will be your scoreboard.
  2. Label point values next to each hole. A larger hole will be less points than a smaller hole, which is more challenging to aim for.
  3. Optional: Decorate the cardboard. Use markers, wrapping paper, stickers, etc.
  4. Click here to watch a video on how to create a paper airplane. Create 3-4 airplanes, in case you want to play with a friend!
  5. Game on! Challenge yourself and others, by seeing who can score the most points. Aim your paper airplane towards each hole, and toss your plane in the attempt to score points by gliding it through the hole.

Paper Plate Ring Toss

Make an easy and fun DIY ring toss with a ruler and paper plates!

Supplies:

  • Ruler
  • Paper Plates (20)
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Optional: Crayons and Markers

Instructions:

  1. Cut out the centers of the paper plates.
  2. Glue two paper plates together (a single paper plate is too light on its own). With 20 paper plates, you will be able to make 10 rings.
  3. Divide the rings into two piles of 5. Color or decorate each pile with a matching pattern (Ex. Pile 1 is decorated with pink stars, and pile 2 is decorated with blue stars). This will help you know which player has which rings.
  4. Find a ruler and place it 2 inches deep into the ground. You may also use a stick.
  5. Play! Each player gets a set of 5 rings. Toss the rings onto the ruler. Each successful toss that rings the ruler equals a point. The first one to 10 wins!
