The mission and core beliefs of The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte fuel our commitment to promoting safe, positive, and inclusive environments for all. Boys & Girls Clubs support all youth and teens – of every race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, ability, socio-economic status, and religion – in reaching their full potential.
The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte has a lineup of tested and proven nationally recognized programs that address today's most pressing youth issues, teaching young people the skills they need to succeed in life. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte is committed to changing lives. By measuring how much Club kids and teens are achieving, we can determine how effectively the Club experience is helping America’s youth build great futures. These programs are found in six core program areas.
CHARACTER & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Programs in Character and Leadership Development empower youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process, and respect their own and others’ cultural identities.
EDUCATION & CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Programs in Education and Career Development enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations, and embrace technology to achieve success in a career.
Programs in Health and Life Skills develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
Programs in The Arts enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts, and creative writing.
Programs in Sports, Fitness and Recreation develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment, and social skills.
SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT
Programs in Spiritual Development provide youth with the opportunity to learn about GOD and how Faith plays a role in our day-to-day life.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte emphasizes community mobilization and family involvement in the lives of Club members.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte are very concerned with the reading test scores for the children in Charlotte. Even though Club kid are being promoted to the next grade each year, their reading scores are below grade level and interest in reading in general is lower than we would like to see it.
Graduate for Más is a program track offered to Club members in partnership with Taco Bell Foundation, as an extension of Taco Bell Foundation’s national initiative that provides tools and resources to teens while tracking their progress toward graduation and life goals.
