Camp Guidelines

GENERAL CAMP RULES

Please review these with your child:

  • Campers are not permitted to leave the camp or skip any activities.
  • All campers must abide by the established curfew.
  • Physical or verbal abuse towards other campers or staff will not be tolerated. Campers engaging in such behavior may be dismissed.
  • Willful destruction of camp property will not be tolerated; consequences will be decided by the camp director.
  • Alcohol, marijuana, illegal recreational drugs, tobacco products of any kind, or being in the presence of someone consuming or in possession, will result in immediate dismissal from the camp.
  • Campers are not permitted to possess or use fire, candles, mosquito coils, or fireworks.
  • Campers are not permitted to possess a knife, sharp tool or weapon of any kind.
  • Grafiti on camp premises is not permitted. Parents will be required to pay for the full cost of repair.

CAMPER HEALTHCARE

Medical Visits While at Camp

If your child is seen by the camp nurse for a minor illness/ injury, we will generally not contact you. If it is necessary to take your child to the doctor, we will contact you or your emergency contact to keep you informed.

The costs associated to any medical visits will be sent either to your personal insurance carrier or you personally. If your child is a resident of Arkansas with insurance not recognized in Oklahoma, we will make arrangements to seek medical care at the closest medical facility across the Arkansas border, given it is not an emergency.

Headlice Policy

We have a NO tolerance policy for head lice at Camp Heart O’ Hills. Lice outbreaks can shut down an entire camp for everyone.

Prior to arrival at camp each camper must be checked for head lice. Campers who were “just treated” must have all nits removed and be nit free for 24 hours before they arrive to camp. Each camper will be re-checked at registration by a lice treatment company. If it is determined that eggs, nits or bugs dead or alive are present, the camper will be treated at an additional cost. In the event the lice treatment company is not available on a check-in day and it is determined that eggs, nits or bugs dead or alive are present, the camper will not be permitted to stay at camp.

At the end of the session, every effort will be made to return lost clothing to the campers. There is a much better chance of returning misplaced items if they are labeled with the camper’s name.

Money and Camp Canteen

It is not necessary to send money with your child to camp. In fact, we discourage it. The campers are provided canteen items as part of the camp registration fee and each camper will also receive a Camp T-shirt at the end of the week. If a child does bring money to camp, it can be stored in the camp safe and returned at the end of the week. Camp Heart O’ Hills is not responsible for lost or stolen money.

Items Prohibited at Camp Heart O’ Hills

We do not allow campers to bring hand held electronics including iPods and tablets to camp. In addition, DVD players, video cameras, laptops and TV’s are prohibited.

Cell Phones: We ask that cell phones not be sent with campers. Our counselors will collect them from the camper, should one be sent, and it will be secured in the camp safe. The camper will receive the phone back at the end of the session. In order to maintain the privacy and integrity of our campers, cell phones and digital cameras are not permitted at camp. Cell Phones in cabins are in violation of Safe from Harm and camper safety.

Pictures will be taken by staff members and posted to the The Salvation Army AOK Youth Facebook page, as long as the Photo Consent Form has been signed.

Please do not send any items to camp that could be deemed a weapon (i.e. darts, pocket knives, Chinese throwing stars). Laser pointers, scooters, fireworks or lighters are also prohibited. Do not send expensive watches and jewelry to camp. The camp will not assume responsibility for the loss or damage of any of the above items. If any of these items are found, they will be held in the camp office safe until the end of the camp week.
