Thrift Stores

When you shop at our Thrift Store or donate gently-used items, you can make a difference in the lives of countless people in your community

Our Salvation Army Thrift Store provides used furniture, adult and children’s clothing and shoes, appliances, records, tapes, books, videos, golf equipment, artwork, toys, kitchen utensils, lamps, televisions, knick-knacks, and many other items. All of these items are available to the public at reasonable prices. Store revenue helps fund the missions and programs of The Charlottesville Salvation Army.

The stores also assist people going through difficult times due to homelessness, domestic violence, or other trying circumstances by providing gifts-in-kind. Individuals or families in need may apply for help through the social services office at The Salvation Army’s main office +1 (434)295-4058 to obtain vouchers for furniture and clothing at no charge.

Family Store Hours: 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday - Saturday
Donation Hours: 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Saturday

Do You Need Items Picked Up?

Pick-ups on Tuesdays and Wednesday only and limited to Albemarle, Fluvanna, Green counties, and City of Charlottesville.

Sometimes, donors get angry when we don’t accept certain items – what they don’t realize is we have strict rules to follow. Breaking these rules can result in costly fines or lawsuits. Most importantly, these rules protect our shoppers. Safety is our number one priority. 

Here are some of the most common items we must turn away:

  • Mattresses, boxsprings
  • Pianos/organs
  • Gas-powered lawn equipment, large appliances,
  • Cribs, car seats, umbrella strollers, 

Donated vehicles are sold at auction, with proceeds going directly to support the local programs of The Salvation Army of Charlottesville. Drive the vehicle to our Thrift Store; bring a valid title and your keys. We will provide you with a receipt for the donation and send you a letter for your tax records, once the vehicle is sold at auction. For immediate assistance, call +1 (434)979-5230.
