Success Story: Courtney’s Path to Freedom and Stability

Courtney’s story is one of resilience, transformation, and undeniable strength. After enduring severe domestic violence from a long-term partner, Courtney was left emotionally and physically wounded. She was told she could never be independent again, that living on her own was no longer an option.

But Courtney refused to accept that as her reality.

She came to The Salvation Army of Greenville seeking more than just shelter—she came seeking a new beginning. With courage and determination, Courtney partnered with her case manager to confront and overcome the many barriers in her path. Each step forward was earned through perseverance, vulnerability, and hard work.

While at The Salvation Army of Greenville, Courtney invested in herself. She learned how to budget, take control of her finances, and continued to stay in sobriety. Most importantly, she rediscovered her independence—something she had been told she’d never reclaim.

Today, Courtney is living in her very own permanent supportive housing unit at Church Street Place. She is stable, self-sufficient, and hopeful for the future. She now walks through life with confidence, knowing she has not only survived her past, but risen above it. Courtney’s journey is a testament to the power of support, self-belief, and the will to change.

The Salvation Army is proud to have walked alongside her in this chapter of her life and continues to celebrate her inspiring success.
