Employee Spotlight: Auti Shearin
The Salvation Army provides a service center in Pickens County, offering a food pantry; rent, utility and clothing assistance; job placement programs; disaster relief and more to people in need. Auti Shearin serves as the director of the Pickens County Service Center, where she wears many hats to ensure Pickens County’s most vulnerable neighbors receive the resources they need, when they need it most.
“No two days are the same,” said Auti about her role with The Salvation Army. “Our primary goal is to ensure the Pickens Community is served and engaged. One of my favorite parts of my job is being able to immerse myself in my community.”
Auti draws inspiration from the lyrics of a Brandi Carlile song, “There's a chilling absolution that we're given from our birth, A powerful delusion and a plague upon the earth. But nothing scares me more Than the stranger at my door, Who I fail to give shelter, time, and worth.” She goes on to say, “Humanity inspires me. We can accomplish enormous things during some of the worst times, and that’s so moving to me.”
Auti believes The Salvation Army plays a critical role in Pickens. “So many community members are struggling as the prices of everything rise, and there doesn’t seem to be any economic relief in sight. The Salvation Army is here to help those who need it most.”
When she’s not working, Auti dubs herself a ‘self-professed theatre nerd,’ and she majored in theatre during her undergraduate studies in college. While she doesn’t have the time to perform anymore, she enjoys television and movies. She also finds time to paint or DIY projects around her home.
In addition, Auti serves on the Board of Directors for Thrive Upstate (www.thriveupstate.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing individuals living with disabilities and special needs with services, opportunities and support.
We are proud to have Auti as part of the Salvation Army of Greenville team!
